Geranium
Overview
Of over 700 geranium varieties, only a few—Pelargonium roseum, Pelargonium graveolens, Pelargonium odorantissimum, and Pelargonium radula—produce essential oils. The entire plant, including leaves, stalks, and flowers, is steam-distilled to yield a pale greenish-yellow oil with a sweet, green scent that can be rosy or minty. Native to southern Africa, these Geraniaceae family members are now commercially cultivated in China, Egypt, Morocco, Russia, and Réunion, which is renowned for producing the world's finest geranium oil.
Emotional Effects
Geranium is known for its calming and uplifting properties, making it an effective remedy for anxiety, tension, and stress-related conditions. Its antidepressant qualities help free the mind from negative thoughts, while its uplifting aroma promotes harmony, self-expression, and improved communication. Additionally, geranium oil can stimulate feelings of sensuality and balance aggressive and passive tendencies, providing both a calming and energising effect for most people.
