Rose
Overview
The damask rose (Rosa damascena) and cabbage rose (Rosa centifolia) are among the most fragrant species, and their blossoms are key in producing aromatherapy oils. Cultivated in regions like Bulgaria, Morocco, and Turkey, these Rosaceae family members grow as bushy shrubs reaching over six feet tall, bearing sweetly scented flowers in hues from white to red. Steam-distilling 60,000 freshly picked roses yields just one ounce of rose oil. Known as rose otto, this pale-yellow oil has a rich, sweet, spicy floral aroma, ideal for aromatherapy.
Emotional Effects
Rose oil is renowned for its calming, mood-lifting properties. It reduces stress, alleviates anxiety, and stabilises emotions, especially in cases of postnatal depression. It can ease grief and sadness, promote restful sleep, and resolve emotional blocks, enhancing feelings of love and sensuality while reducing tension and promoting emotional well-being.
